Temo Javakhi (Javakhishvili) was born in 1951 in Georgia. During 1971-1974 he was studying acting K/S “Georgian Film” studio. In 1971-1976 he was studying as an artist-technologist at Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts. He was a stage designer, actor and producer at Tbilisi State Theatre of Marionettes in 1981-1996. At the same theatre he directed his own performance „P.S.”. He also directed “Stranger's Gaze” (“In den Auger Eines Fremden”) based on a play by V. M. Bauer.
From 1985 he is a member of the Artists Union in Georgia. From 2015 Temo Javakhi works as an invited proffesior at Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. From 1976 until now, he participated up to 80 exhbitions and international projects.
Temo Javakhi is one of the most distinguished conceptual visual artists in Georgia. He has played an important role in developing alternative discourses of Georgian contemporary art in 1980-90’s. His artworks are created in various mediums (video, site-specific installation, painting objects,action/performance paintings). Temo Javakhi generally criticises dogmatic normes. His individual approach of conceptual analysis (playing with Dadaist forms, using of postmodernist irony and expression) defines his prominent role in Georgian Contemporary Art.
