Irina Shtenberg originally German,  was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1903. She was studying at Caucasian Society Art School in 1921. She continued studying at Tbilisi State Academy of Arts (leading by G. Gabashvili, I. Sharleman, B. Fogel, E. Lanceray)  in 1923-1928. Her most well-known series are “ My Adjara”, “Georgian Women” from 1903’s. She was generally worked at Griboedov Theatre in Tbilisi. Shtenberg has an important role for developing Georgian Scenography.  She was awarded as an Georgian honoured artist in 1943 and in 1976 she named as public artist of Georgia.


At the end of the 20th century, interest increased in Shtenberg's art, after her works were presented at Philips and Sotheby's auctions. Her works demonstrate modernistic individual expression, in which exposes grotesque, irony and subjective creativity.  Artist's works are stored in private collections and in different galleries.
